Return to work, when life starts to feel better

Before being a yoga teacher I worked in fashion as a designer, thats my training in trade and I have always being involved in design, fashion and printing. I launched the yoga clothes company in 2014 but this coincided with the death of my brother which was followed not long after by the sad passing of my mother. I mention this because nothing could prepare me for how grief takes a hold and before I could feel better again I went through a period of depression where I felt it impossible function in a way that I had previously known to be normal. I never achieved any momentum from the start of the business and wondered if I would pick it all up again.

Our natural and innate self will surface, but at times it will also feel under the pile of what we experience as life. Therefore I am always happy when glimpse of inspiration invites me back to my creative self.

I had these socks made to wear durning relaxation and keep on afterwards. As a yoga teacher its nice to look at sea of Om symbols whilst people are relaxing and that we can take that vibe out of the class with us. The strap line is “socks that support the soul”.

I love the change in seasons and spring time for me really is the most exciting time. The start of something new. Liberated from winter and ready to stretch out with the longer days and feel the joy of the sunshine. Inspired by natures new shoots, watching the birds getting busy along with been woken up by their happy daily greetings is all a reminder to celebrate the time and also be mindful of what we are creating for our self.

Classes run as normal and the first class is always free for new students.

MY THANKS TO MR IYENGAR – a life of practice.

It’s a week now since Mr Iyengar passed away. I am still paying tribute to him with my students as they return to classes after the summer break. The more I think about him the more I realise that he has been the greatest influence in my life. I didn’t take a lesson direct from him but my first teachers were Iyengar ones and his were the books that I studied from. Therefore I would say that his teachings are the reason that for the past 25 years I have been practicing yoga. If not a daily physical class or teaching then in my meditations. Everyday observing my thoughts, what I eat, what I say. Making an effort to be better than I was before. Yoga is a practice, it’s a living experience and its something worth doing. It is so simple that it makes us laugh at ourselves for struggling so much when life can be easy. Mine is not a life that has been free from life stresses, quite the contrary. Yoga keeps me steady in an ever challenging existence . Big thanks to Mr Iyengar and his teachers for their hard work for others.

The difference between yoga and other exercise discipline’s is that there is a philosophy that underpins our yoga practice. The philosophy is the foundation and is what works on and off the mat. It creates the stability that enables flexibility. Yoga after all is a balance of both mind and body, both are relevant.

Today I am dedicating my blog to time – this moment is your life.

We all have the same amount of time. For each and everyone of us the minutes are the same. How do yours feel?

The time is always right, it’s just that our thoughts influences the time that we are in. Where as the universe is consistent in providing all that us right for us. Is it time to get out of your head and into your life

To get the most out of our time try asking yourself what are holding, tension, negativity, fear, doubt. These states are limiting and create obstacles within ourself. If we are to get positive energy flowing you need to create a clear space to dream within.

Our bodies and mind hold tension and pain, all we can be is aware of this and be sensitive to it. If something hurts, don’t do it. Don’t push beyond pain, cultivate patience and breath easily. Over time you will feel better. That time can be minutes or longer. Respect that which is difficult, there is a lesson to learn. If you want to overcome the difficulty then seek to understand the source. Yoga is an opportunity for self enquiry. A yoga practice is the ultimate detox, like fatty food sitting on our hips, negativity sticks to our very being and makes us sluggish and tired, just the same as how junk food makes us feel.
If on the other hand you are full of love and vitality, hold that space and know this energy is expansive. Use it wisely. If things aren’t going so well, start to clear out. Its hard to let go even when we know we have to. Embrace positive change.

It’s time to create something new.

Seek to Change

The practice of yoga gives us the opportunity to find a quiet place in which to cultivate peace and tranqulity. It also offers and chance to stretch and awaken ourselves. For those of us who already have a practice we appriciate how improtant it is for us to get on our mats and re connect to our vital flow of energy and to feel this either on a daily, weekly or whenever we need it basis. Understanding oursleves leads to greater clarity over all aspects of our lives and being.
